Project

The children of today are the decison makers of tomorrow. Europe was built a long time ago and was created to help us work together. It's time now to think and act on the current climate problems which will impact their adult life in order to create a more sustainable, cohesive, inclusive and culturally integrated future within a united Europe.

The Stronger Together project establishes an Education Strategic Partnership and builds on Town Twinning initiatives, developing links made by citizens into educational opportunities that are used to raise awareness of sustainability issues. The project is led by Bressuire Tourism Office in the Deux Sevres region of Poitou Charente and it establishes a working group of three primary schools (France, Spain and Ireland).

Supported by the lead partner, the schools work together to exchange good practice and develop innovation in the field of sustainability; from local community sustainability to the environmental and wider issues that threaten Europe and the planet as a whole.

There is a programme of exchanges where teachers learn together about standard curriculum content in Humanities. They develop an analysis of need based on examining each country's learning agenda for primary aged children. Together they plan additional elements to test within their classroom to allow children to become Sustainability Ambassadors. The children themselves cascade their learning to their parents and to their local communities.

There are class to class Skype sessions, face to face teacher meetings and a planned schedule of transnational meetings that include support structures such as local authorities and leaders of tourism sector.

Exchanging good practice and developing innovation occur throughout the project which begins in September 2016 and lasts for 24 months.  A total of 52 teachers and representatives from the wider community take part in meetings and workshops in partner countries.
The aim is to make the children aware of the important environmental issues in society; to share our educational methods; to create a resource everyone can refer to. Children need to take onboard the important issues and reflect upon the actions they can take. This will be their contribution to the word of tomorrow.”
